Today is memorial day and I went to go watch the annual Park Ridge memorial day parade. Usually I am in the parade or at least I have been for the last couple of years, but this year I decided not to be in it because I went to watch it with a friend. It was cool to see all the veterans and people in the community that I usually don't get to see. It was also cool how we actually got to see the people who have served for our country and have them be recognized. At the same time I also saw many people I knew in the parade. Watching the parade was a good experience and I would also like to wish everybody a Happy Memorial Day!

This Thursday and Friday is our math placement test is you are in C of C math. I am so nervous! I have been studying a lot for this test, but I just can't keep my nerves down. If we don't pass this test than we will have to repeat Algebra 2, which would be really bad. My hope is that I will be able to be placed in the Accelerated Geometry Trig. class, which is the highest level we can be placed in. There's a lot of stuff riding on this one test grade. I also really want to be placed in that class because my brother was. It's hard to say this, but my brother is actually like a math genius and is way smarter than me. He's only a sophomore and he's already taking all accelerated classes and and an AP class. Therefore is really hard living up to his standards in my household. So I just really hope that I do the best I can do on this test!
This trimester I have the sculpture and ceramics class and we have been making some really cool projects. The first project we made was a slab pot, which is basically any type of pot made by scoring and slipping slabs together. For this pot we had to have a theme, so some how a theme of just a huge wave popped into my head. So my pot ended up being like a half circle with a dent in it and a slanted top (The shape is kind of hard to explain). Anyways the main thing that I love about my pot is the colors. For this pot we got to carefully paint the pots using brushes, so i painted mine the color of water, since it's a wave, but since water can be many shades of blues/colors I blended all the blue glazes there were. So my pot goes from being dark blue at the bottom to a very light blue/white at the top where the wave is which is my handle. Another project we have made so far is a wire sculpture. I chose to make mine Mickey Mouse, since it had to be a toy from your childhood and I really couldn't think of a toy so I just chose Mickey Mouse. I am currently also working on this plaster project in Sculptures and Ceramics which I particularly hate, but what we did was make an uneven plaster shape and now we have to carve something out of it by shaving away the plaster. I'm making a turtle. Above is a picture of my wave pot and below is a picture of my Mickey Mouse wire project. I'm really enjoying this class so far, well except for the plaster project, but hopefully it will turn out ok.
We are finally starting to have some warm weather in Park Ridge and its finally starting to feel like spring this weekend, of course this weekend is the weekend I have to be sick. For some reason on Friday morning I woke up with this huge headache and a really high fever. I stayed in bed all day and I wasn't able to eat or do anything I just felt so useless. Then my fever had to carry over to Saturday and again I had to stay in bed. Today, Sunday, I am feeling much better thankfully, but still have a huge headache. I was so sad that I was sick this weekend though because I love the warm weather. As I said earlier, this weekend was really nice out and I was kind of sad that I had to stay inside all weekend. I love how in the beginning of spring all of the flowers start to bloom when its warm out. I love all the colors of the flowers especially the bright red color of the tulips. Anyways I had a pretty bad weekend being sick and all, but I was glad that Spring is finally here and that the warm weather is finally starting to arrive!
Ok, so I know that the bombing at the Boston Marathon was a very big tragedy and stuff, but I think that the news has been a little too crazy about it. I do understand that many people were hurt and it was very scary and a threat to many people's safety, but there was too much. All last week from like Wednesday to Saturday all they were showing on abc and nbc was all about the bombing. I was getting kind of upset because right now I am hooked on a lot of reality shows, but I record them since I don't have enough time to watch them all. So, since last Thursday and Friday we didn't have school I was going to catch up on all of my reality shows I was watching like Dance Moms, Revolution, the Voice......and many more shows(that are really good by the way..). So I went on my cable box to start watching the recordings and all of my recordings weren't of my shows, but of the special news reports like Rock Center and stuff. Every single one of my shows was not aired because they were having all these last minute special news reports on the Boston bombing. Therefore I was kind of upset that they were having all these special news reports on the bombing. Having all these reports has also taught me one thing that I've learned about the news. The news sometimes over exaggerates a lot of things. Like have you ever seen those mini commercials telling you that you should watch the news at 10 because there may be something harmful in your water that could kill you, well in my opinion if the water is gonna kill you shouldn't you tell us now and not wait until 10 when many people will be dead already, otherwise if it can wait then it must not be that dramatic that it could kill you. That is just my opinion on the news other people may have different opinions, but that's what I think.Ending this on a lighter note I'm praying for all those injured people who were affected by the Boston bombing and I hope they all recover well.
I can't believe that 8th grade is almost over. Only 7 more weeks(about 35 days)! I remember posting my blog back in like September or October about how school was going by so fast and how we were already 6 weeks through school and now here we are with only 7 weeks of school left. 8th grade really has gone by really fast. I especially can't wait until the last week of school because we get to go to six flags and stay there the entire day. The only bad thing about six flags is that it's the exact same day as the senior graduation at maine south so people who have siblings who are graduating have to leave early...but not me 'cause luckily my brothers only a sophomore. Anyways I can't wait until the last week of school! I hope that these 7 weeks fly by so fast.
This year I am going on pointe and I am so excited! For those of you who don't know what pointe is it is when you dance on your tips of your toes in special shoes. Well anyways I got my first pair of pointe shoes on Sunday and I am going to start pointe on Tuesday! The only thing about going on pointe is that when you buy the special shoes you have to hand sew all the ribbon on yourself, which I just finished doing yesterday(it took 3 hours). But anyways this is kind of a sort post, but I'm just really excited that I'm going on pointe. It's going to be so cool! For me at least. The picture above is a picture of me in my pointe shoes. It was kinda hard to take a picture while on pointe at the same time 'cause I'm not that advanced yet since I'm just starting, so the picture isn't very good.
This is a picture of the Arch de Triomphe. This is a picture of Notre Dame This is a picture of the Eiffel Tower This is the view from underneath the Eiffel Tower, which I think looks kinda cool. This is the view from the top of the Eiffel Tower. This is a picture of part of the Palace of Versailles. This is a picture of the Mona Lisa. It was hard to take a picture of it since it was cased in glass and there were tons of people, but this is the best one I got. This is a picture of the Paris Opera House, where the chandelier fell, that the Phantom of the Opera is based off of. Here is a close up of the chandelier that fell in the Opera House above. Finally here is a picture of the Cathedral in Colonge. This cathedral has been there since 1248. These are just some of the many pictures I took on my vacation.
So as you know or as you didn't know I went to Paris and a city in Germany called Cologne over spring break and it was really cool! I have so many things I want to talk about because I just saw and went to so many amazing places. In this blog though I will only name a few since there is just way too much to talk about.So.....
One of the places I went to was no other then the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The Eiffel Tower was really cool and I actually got to go all the way up to the very top of the Tower. Although the Sears Tower or should I say Willis Tower is taller than the Eiffel tower I preferred the view from the Top of the Eiffel Tower much better than from the Sears Tower because at the top of the Eiffel tower they actually let you go outside and see the view where as at the Sears Tower you can only see the view from windows and inside the glass boxes. Going up the elevator in the Eiffel Tower was also very cool because you could see how the buildings and stuff got smaller as you went up, but you also got to see all of the inside structure and all the the bars and nails and stuff they used to make it. Another place I visited over spring break was the Lindt Chocolate Museum. This was an entire building where they showed you how their chocolate was made and how they actually made all the huge shaped chocolate animals/people/shapes/ such as the chocolate Easter bunnies. At the end of the museum they also gave you a cup of liquid chocolate and vanilla wafers to dip in the chocolate and it tasted amazing! They also had a huge chocolate fountain inside the museum. Other than eating amazing chocolate there I also learned a lot more on how chocolate is made and how all the machines worked. Those are two of the many amazing places I went/saw in France and Germany. I also am going to post a blog of many pictures I took there and of all the other sightseeing I did such as the arch of triumph, the pantheon, and many other famous monuments and sights. -ice cream
-dance moms -cake -weekends -sleeping in -no homework -relaxing -water on a really hot day -going on vacation!! -spring break...can't wait France and Germany here I come! -dancing -cuties(the oranges) -hanging out with friends -laughing -living in the moment -art -nutella -roller coasters -ice skating -finally finishing a really long project -popcorn -watching a movie and seeing the happy ending -painting my nails -good grades -spending time with my sisters -sushi -the color blue -my birthday -six flags -figuring out the answer to a really hard question -and many more things.... |
