Spring break is here at last. I thought it would never come! I've noticed that everyone is noticeably happier in the spring time. People are breaking in their new walking shoes and taking out their bikes that have been collecting dust in the garage all winter. The other day I was Uptown eating a bagel in einsteins and a girl from school passed by the window on her bike. I don't know this girl well at all but she smiled and waved like we were old friends. People are taking leisurely drives with the windows rolled down, and aren't frantically rushing from place to place. Spring really just makes people happy. Especially me. For example, to celebrate our first day of spring break, my friend Reese and I decided to walk to Dairy Queen. We didn't end up walking though. We skipped. All the way to DQ and back. It was a really good work out and it was really fun. So as we were skipping to get our cookie dough blizzards, with One Direction blasting from my phone, we passed a guy, he looked like a senior in high school, getting into his car. "Oh no." Reese said, "people. He might see us." We stopped and thought about this for a second. Then we both shrugged and continued skipping because we were too happy to care about whether that guy thought we were crazy or not. As we skipped down the block the guy yelled after us "what are you guys doing?" I wasn't planning on answering the stranger, but I thought YOLO. So I said "skipping!"
"Why?" He asked.
"Because it's fun!" I called back over my shoulder.
"And it's Spring Break!" Reese added. On a gross winter day, a typical senior in high school would have replied with some mean and degrating comment, but since its spring and nice out, and he must've been happy too, he just laughed. And it wasn't the kind of laugh that made me feel like he was laughing at us. It was the kind of laugh that felt like he was laughing with us. So we laughed too and skipped the rest of the way to Dairy Queen. And we were very happy. Because its finally spring. The end.
