This morning I decided to work on my birthday cake for my family party tomorrow. My decorations are kind of elaborate so I was just going to make a box cake. For me this isn't so difficult, I am a pretty good cook (or so I've been told) and I can make crepes from memory, so make a box cake doesn't seem that hard. Well it is for me. I mess up every time. Nothing to huge but I make a mistake. Every. Single. Time. Today as I was taking the cake out of the oven my grip on the pan slipped. The cake thankfully stayed in the pan but my giant oven mitted hand decided this wasn't going to go smoothly. In attempt to not have cake all over the floor my hand went into the cake, it looks like I punched it. This wouldn't be such a problem if I didn't have to place decorations that I so carefully made on top of this uneven cake. As I said before my decorations are kind of elaborate and they took me a long time to make. I made all of them out of fondant, the best way to describe fondant is sort of like edible play dough. I made the signature Harry potter glasses, a Gryfinndor scarf, and the Deathly Hallows symbol. I also made a snitch, I put this edible gold dust that we had to make it look golden. Last I made a book by layering three saltine crackers and covering three sides with a binding of fondant to represent a book. Laina also made a snake. She's such a hypocrite, she laughs at the idea but then wants to help me. The only reason I let her was because with the edition of the snake I had seven objects, the same number as the number of Harry Potter books. I hope this cake turns out good, its not perfectly made, obviously, and my scale is no where near accurate (the glasses are three times bigger than the book) but I'm really excited. Once I finish I will post a picture so you can all see! : )

I can't wait to see the picture. Sometimes, when I mess up the top of a cake I flip it over and use the bottom as the top; it's always even.
