So my brother Frank and his girlfriend recently went to Junior prom with a bunch of their friends, and I must say, they were all super duper cute. I went to go take pictures of them before the dance, at one of Frank's friend's houses. There are some really nice pictures of the whole group together, and some just unorganized pictures of people standing around. There's no way I can post all of them, because there are soooo many, but behold: Frank's prom pictures.

One of the things on my happy list was finding a bunch of old stuff that I'd forgotten about, like a little accidental time capsule. Well I found one today. I was looking through the storage room trying to find something, and I found this old basket that I used to keep in my room, filled with stuff I had forgotten about. I don't know when I put it back there, but it must have been a long time ago, because I hadn't seen this stuff in a loooong time. This is the basket with a lot of the stuff taken out: There was a lot of stuff in there; more than I thought could fit in one basket. Among some of the things I found were a stack of Yugi-Oh cards (or however it's spelled) that I'm pretty sure belong to our neighbors, and - well, I'll just show you. Yes, that's a First Communion doll. And a little bunny and a turtle and a duck and a chick and an old watch. And just about every chap stick I ever owned. Oh, and an envelope of "hard earned quarters" - aka, the allowance I used to get when I did chores. The envelope held an impressive two and a half dollars. Wow was I a helpful kid or what. I also saved a first place field day ribbon, and some cute old pictures. On of me as a baby, one of my friend and I on a birthday long ago, and some others. I think swimming goggles and Yugi-O cards were probably the weirdest things I found, but the most informative was the dog tags that I found. I think I got them when I went to a museum or something. They said Maura Lally, age 9. So this basket disappeared into my closet somewhere around 5 years ago. That's a long time. I also found a Blockbuster gift card, which is almost certainly expired.
Anyway, it was super nice to find all this stuff that was valuable to me long ago, and I think it's going to be really cool when we get letters mailed to us at the end of Freshman year. Letters from ourselves that tell us all about what's valuable to us now, in eighth grade. I think it's really cool to look back and see how much I've changed and how much I've stayed the same, so I'm pretty excited to get these letters back at the end of Freshman year. But I should probably stop thinking about it, because it'll be cooler if I've forgotten about it by the time I get it back. :) Hey people, I haven't blogged in a while. I'm pretty sure I missed a readers response blog because guess what, my wifi is being stupid! I was trying to think of something to blog about, so I decided to blog about why I haven't been blogging. It made sense at the time but there's not really a whole lot to say about it. My wifi has been going on and off for the last few weeks, so that's definitely annoying. We think it's finally fixed, but we thought it was fixed before and it wasn't. So... yeah. That's pretty much all there is to say about that. On another topic, junior prom was Saturday! My brother went with his girlfriend, and they went to a friends house before to take pictures. Apparently all his friends have younger siblings in or around our grade so I went to the pictures. I wanted to see all the dresses, and they were all very pretty! They all wore long dresses. I saw Dave's sister there too :P. So I had a cool weekend other than the annoying wifi problems which are now hopefully fixed.
There has been an exciting new development since the ice trays! We recently ordered Dusty a new collar. We had to get her a new one, because she, being Dusty, rolled in something gross and got her old collar all dirty and messed up. Since it's (supposed to be) spring, we decided to get her something flowery and bright. We ordered it off the internet, because we didn't wan't to go to a store that's really far from home and Kriser's didn't have anything cute. It came in the mail today, and here it is!
You know you're sick when the best part of your day if finding these ice trays: I don't much like popsicles. The rest of my family loves popsicles when they're sick, but I just like ice. That's why I was so happy when I found these ice trays. Our normal ice trays just make normal ice in the shape of cubes. These make ice in the shape of... hmmm... Like little ice popsicles, but without the popsicle stick. I know, I'm weird. But you can't blame me, I'm sick.
I'm SICK
GAAAAHHHH I was just sick not that long ago! I hate being sick. I made my happy list, so here's a sad list. Of stuff I hate about being sick. feeling sick (obviously) throwing up (bleugh) can't get up and go outside sitting in my dark room all day can't play with dusty can't drink a lot of water (if I puke) even if I'm thirsty don't feel like eating have to make up a ton of homework when I go back to school I always seem to miss fun stuff going to the doctor don't see my friends for a long time it's so booooring and a lot more too :( I hope I can go to school tomorrow and see the v-show! So it's a rainy afternoon, the thor guard has just gone off and I haven't started my homework. We just finished dinner, and I'm just sitting in the living room looking out the window at the pouring rain. Dusty is in the basement, cuddled in her blanket probably asleep. My brother is in the dining room with his computer, highlighting things in his open history book. It's going to get dark pretty soon. The rain starts letting up, but it never completely stops. It continues at a heavy drizzle. So what do I decide to do? Now would be a great time to go for a run. So I get my running clothes on, with some double layered pants and a stretchy running jacket. My mom is coming with, and we both get our iPods and put our earbuds in, and off we go. We got this little interval timer called a GymBoss, so we run for 45 seconds then walk for 1 minute. We were planning on doing a three mile run/walk, so right when we get pretty far away from our house it starts pouring rain. There was lots of thunder and lightening, so we didn't do the full three miles. We both got soaked, but it was actually really fun.
These are some of the things that make me HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!!

This is what most people say about old people and for some reason this really bothers me. First of all, old people are not 4. They have much more life experience than younger people and I'm sure they don't appreciate people patronizing them all the time. Especially if those people are between the ages of 9 and 16. Being old doesn't make you stupid. Old people still deserve to be taken seriously. Old people are smarter than you, and they're smarter than me. Old people are normal, they can have a normal conversation with you and they can even *gasp* be disagreeable sometimes. Some old people are just downright ugly. But somehow, these facts seem to be canceled out by the fact that they are old. Everybody will be old one day, and when a group of 12 year olds sees you in public and starts talking about how cute you are, "omg"ing and "aawww"ing at you like you can't see or hear them at all... Maybe then you'll see how hard it is for those "cute little" old people not to roll their wheel chairs right over your toes. I'm not saying we should all ignore old people; if you see an old person on a bus or something feel free to offer them your seat. Feel free to thank a war veteran, or volunteer at a retirement home, but just don't call them "cute". A baby is cute. A puppy is cute. Old people can be pretty or handsome, they can look noble or plump or have laugh lines, but they cannot be cute. At least not so excessively cute that every kid that sees them has some sort of attack. I don't know about you, but I dread the turning point in my life where people stop thinking of me as an intelligent being and start seeing me as just another "cute old person". It's like somewhere in the middle of your life you start aging backwards, and people start treating you like you're getting younger and stupider instead of older and wiser. I obviously have no idea what it feels like to be an old person or experience this change, but from what I've observed I'm not looking forward to it. Here's what I mean:
You see a baby in a buggy. You look at it and say "aaawww he's so cute! Oh my gosh so adorable!" You see a kid your age walking down the street. You say "Hi!" or you just ignore them. You see a middle-aged man walking down the street. You probably pull your hat down and speed-walk until you pass him. You see a little old man walkind down the street, and you say "aaawww he's so cute! Oh my gosh so adorable!" You see what I mean? I'm okay with looking up to old people, I'm okay with thinking they are good looking and being nice to them, but I'm just not okay with acting like they are the baby you see being pushed down the street in a buggy. I know a lot of people in this class immediately think "omg so adorable" when it comes to old people, but I would like to respectfully disagree with you. If you're still reading my rant, thank you for hearing me out, and next time you see an old person please do not call them cute. Peace is returned to the Lally household! My cell phone has made a miracle recovery! Rice, oh courageous, determined rice, you are a true hero!

Welcome to Maura's Blog!MAURA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Hi, it's Maura! I have a dog, I run cross country, and you no longer have to read this blog because that pretty much sums up everything on here. My BooksCheck out my front page to see the books I want to read, if you want too, I can't force you to but you can if you want, well I don't know now I confused myself now so never mind. Picture EditorAs you can see, Dusty helps with the pictures. :D Thanks for being so cute, Dusty! Also, don't get confused. Dusty had darker fur when she was little, but she was tan underneath! Nope, I don't have two dogs. Page PictureThe pictures on the top of this page and on my homepage are pictures I took at the Botanic Gardens, and I thought they went well with this theme, so.... yep!
