1) Eyeballs
Well, no, I'm not actually afraid of eyeballs, and they don't really bother me, but it's eyeball injuries, or things touching an eye, or looking at an eye that's not in a head, or when people flip up their eyelids... Anything to do with eyes doing something that they aren't supposed to do. Like when we watched the eye surgery in science... I couldn't even look. I'm not really usually a wimp about stuff, but when it comes to eyes, especially cutting one open... bleeeaaurgh. 2) Chicagoland I don't really know why, but when people say Chicagoland... I don't know. That just bothers me. A lot. 3) Toenails I think that explains itself. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think anyone really likes toenails... 4) Manikins without heads Actually, I guess manikins with heads bother me just as much as manikins without heads... The faces are just so weird and creepy... But I don't know, it just seems like they should have a head, right? I'm not sure why, but I guess manikins in general just bother me... 5) Dogs with Painted Nails "My dog loves a day at the spa, and then she puts her little tutu on and she gets a pedicure! She loves it!" Okay, no matter how much you treat your dog like a princess, IT DOES NOT LIKE IT'S PAINTED NAILS. No dog should have painted nails. Maybe it is your little baby, and maybe it's treated like a princess, but it's a dog! It likes to play, and dig in the mud! ...!

Top 5 Vacations I've Been On1) Canada
I don't honestly remember being on this vacation. I must have been 2 or 3, and I only remember one thing about it: I remember standing in a room - and I was standing, no one was holding me - so I was standing and looking out a window, a floor-to-ceiling window, and I was looking out into a baseball field. I also remember my mom carrying me around in a gift shop. That's probably my earliest memory ever. 2) Boston I really don't remember anything about this, but it was probably cool! 3) Springfield This is where I learned how to swim! We stayed in a hotel, and they had a pool. It was a nice pool, and I put my floaties on my arm, and swam back and forth, and back and forth, and back and forth... and back and forth... until my mom suggested I try to take the floaties off. I did, and I practiced and practiced in the shallow end until I got it! Also, there was absolutely nothing to eat there - apparently, every restaurant in Springfield closes at 6:00! 3) Lake Geneva I go to Lake Lawn Lodge in Lake Geneva every year, sometimes more than once a year. I absolutely love it, it's like a home away from home. I know every twist and turn in it's long hallways, and I could stay there all the time. I've been going there since I can remember; it seems like forever. There was a period of time where it seemed like it was not doing so well, and then it actually closed for a while. I was so sad, because I thought it was closed for good, but it opened again! :D 3) Milwaukee My family goes here every year the weekend before school goes back. They have Irish Fest there (you might know or go to Summer Fest in Milwaukee; Irish Fest is on the same fest grounds). We stay at the Hyatt, and there is a waiter at the Hyatt restaurant that always serves us breakfast. He knows when we come every year, as we've been going there practically forever. We haven't been there for the last few years, because school went back earlier, before Irish Fest started the last few years. Here's a bonus, because I feel like it: 4) Pleasant Prairie There is a huge mall here, and we stay at the Raddison across the street. We shop shop shop, and when we're done, we go swimming. A couple days of this, once we've hit all the shops, we go home with our new goods and enjoy the fact that we got better than a hotel gift shop! Yes, Springfield, Lake Geneva, and Milwaukee are tied for third. I kind of like Lake Geneva more, maybe a little bit, but I couldn't decide. So: I can't figure out how to end this blog so this blog is now done! :D If you check my front page, you will see that I've added a "widget" of my summer reading list. This summer, I found this website called Goodreads. It has summaries of books, and other things (I haven't really looked at all of it yet) and it's pretty nice. You can apparently make "shelves" of books: books you've read, books you're reading now, and books you want to read. Also, when I was playing around the other day, I noticed that you can click a thing that says "widgets". It lets you choose a shelf, and it makes a "widget" of it. You can copy something called an html onto a blog and BAM - there's my reading list! This summer, I've been using my computer a lot. I've learned a lot, and now I know how to ... well... blog, and go on Goodreads... Fancy, huh? You know, what can I say, I've been practicing... Anyways, Goodreads is a good place to find books to read. They have good summaries, and good reviews. If you sign up, they give you recommendations based on books that you rate out of five stars. As of right now, though, the recommendation page isn't working, and, well, I would use my amazing computer skills to fix it, but... I just... don't feel like it? Yep, that's what we'll say...! :D Point is, Goodreads is a Goodsite and maybe you should check it out! This summer, I'm going to the Maine South Cross Country camp. It's every weekday (mon - thurs) at 7:30 in the morning. We run through the forest. Whoever decided it was going to be in July, the hottest month of the year, makes me want to say not nice words. :P I really enjoy it (except for the getting up early part and the fact that it's, like, 100 degrees outside). I get up in the morning (usually around 7:00) and shove a bowl of cereal in my mouth. I throw my running clothes on and get ready, and then I go to Maine South. When it starts, we do stretches and exercises, and do a lap around the big field. Then we grab our water bottles, and we cross the street into the forest. This is the fun part, for me. I like the forest. I never went in there before this, other than the occasional family picnic (which doesn't really count as being in the forest). When we get across the street, there's a little path that leads to a big clearing next to a parking lot. I kind of like the little path, and how there's logs and branches across it. We put our water bottles down by the parking lot, and start running. There are different groups. Some kids run 1 and 1/2 miles, some kids run 2 miles, some kids run 3, 4, or even 8 miles. The camp includes 7th graders to seniors. A couple friends and I (hi Emily! :D) run 2 miles. The trail is cool (as in awesomeness and temperature), and I like looking into the forest. I like how the camp is kind of more suited to me, because I can run however many miles I want, and it's not like we all have to stay in one big pack. I like running. I like to talk to my friends, so when I talk to my friends while I'm running, I feel like I'm doing something good. I don't want to become a couch potato this summer. I don't know about anyone else, but doing exercises like running in place or doing high knees just bores me to tears. I like running, because I can look around and I can get someplace. I won't just stare at the same surroundings as i lift weights or do sit-ups. Another thing that I can say for sure about cross country is that it makes me HUNGRY I love my dog! I have so many pictures of her: when she was little, in the yard, on the couch, on the ground, at the back door, under the table, eating food, doing a trick, rolling around... You see a few on this blog, too! You probably think I am obsessed with my Dusty, and, well, I can't say that's not true! :D Dusty is a very happy dog. She is always happy. It's like I can see the little corks turning in her brain, trying to figure out how to look on the bright side of things. When there's a loud noise, look on the bright side: I'm so scared I somehow end up on the big chair with the blanket on top of it - that's really comfy! When it's too hot out, look on the bright side: there is a very cool spot behind the toilet just waiting to be enjoyed! When my bone is underneath a blanket, look on the bright si - whoa, that's really crazy, now I can try to scratch it out of the blanket and run in circles! So yes, you get the idea. She has strange habits, like sprinting in wide circles around our basement when her bone is buried in a blanket and yes, sometimes we do find her behind the toilet, but that makes us love her so much more! On July 4th, the neighbors were setting off fireworks, and we went outside to watch. We noticed Dusty run downstairs when she heard the noise. When we came in, we found her napping on a chair with a huge blanket thrown on it - we have no idea whether she jumped there from the ground, or maybe off the couch, but she's never been up there before! When she saw us, she wagged her tail, but was in no hurry to get up. She was very happy where she was! Sometimes I feel so bad leaving her in the house alone. I don't think she really minds it, she mostly just sleeps the whole time, but she doesn't get to play as much or go outside when we're gone. She's always so happy to see us home and so sad to see us go. But again, she looks on the bright side - many times when we come home, we see her trotting out of my brother's room, where she has a pillow that she loves to lay on. The thing is, she doesn't appreciate anyone making noise when she's on that pillow. She likes to lay on it when the house is quiet, so she takes advantage of our absence and enjoys her quiet pillow. I like to look on my iPhoto and watch her grow. I have so many pictures of her, starting with when she was little, with her little tail and fuzzy black fur. She was so small! Then I move on to after her first haircut. She looked so different with tan fur that was underneath the now gone black, and she seemed... energetic. She could see better without the hair hanging in her eyes, I think. Then on to when she started getting bigger - 10 lb., 11 lb., 12 lb., and I notice her fur in the pictures changing from shaggy to short to shaggy again as she got more haircuts. She went from 2 lb. to 14 lb., and she just turned 2. She always seems like the new puppy, and I still love to play with her just as much as when we got her, but at the same time it feels like she's always been there, waiting at the house of flopping on the couch. |
Welcome to Maura's Blog!MAURA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Hi, it's Maura! I have a dog, I run cross country, and you no longer have to read this blog because that pretty much sums up everything on here. My BooksCheck out my front page to see the books I want to read, if you want too, I can't force you to but you can if you want, well I don't know now I confused myself now so never mind. Picture EditorAs you can see, Dusty helps with the pictures. :D Thanks for being so cute, Dusty! Also, don't get confused. Dusty had darker fur when she was little, but she was tan underneath! Nope, I don't have two dogs. Page PictureThe pictures on the top of this page and on my homepage are pictures I took at the Botanic Gardens, and I thought they went well with this theme, so.... yep!
