Over Thanksgiving break, I saw the movie Lincoln. It was super awesome. Even though it was history and I already knew how it was going to end, it was still really suspenseful. I found myself crossing my fingers that the 13th amendment was going to be passed, even though it already was. I was sitting there, really enjoying myself, then about halfway through the movie I realize: oh crap, he's gonna die! Like I said, it was so good I almost forgot that all this had already happened. At the end, he was walking down the hallway and out the door to go to the theater, and I kept hoping that it would end before he died, and... well, I don't think it's necessary to say SPOILER ALERT, but I guess I just did anyway, but at the end he does die. By that time I was in a total movie coma, because the movie was, like, 3 hours long, not to mention how much I had to go to the bathroom because of the tub of Coke they gave me when I ordered a small. Despite that I still couldn't tear myself from the screen to use the bathroom until the movie was over, that's how good it was. All in all, it was a great movie and you should all see it too!

I recently went to go see the movie Argo. I really wanted to see it because it looked really interesting, but it was rated R so I didn't think I would be able to see it. I looked it up and found out it was just because of swearing, so my mom took me because she wanted to see it too and I couldn't see it without her anyway, I'm not 17 (obviously). It was about six people who escaped the American embassy in Iran, and they hid in the Canadian embassy. The movie is about their plan to get the six Americans back home without getting captured. Their plan was to have the six people go as a Canadian film crew trying to find a location for a fake movie called Argo. It was really really good, and very suspenseful. I'm glad I went to see it before it left the theaters. Basically it was really good and you should all see it!
The other day, a very strange and random thought popped into my head: Are we popular? I hear a lot of talk about certain states, like New York, or California. Here's where my question comes in. Do people in other states talk about Illinois? At first, I thought, well, no. Illinois doesn't really have anything special. It's just kind of there. We all know about Illinois, but that's because we live here. Then another thought occurred to me. We have Chicago. That'a a pretty popular city. Other states must talk about Illinois. But then I thought: What if Chicago isn't really that popular of a city? What if it's just popular in Illinois? Then I thought, no, it can't be only popular in Illinois. Lots of broadcasting and news channels and stuff are in Chicago. Then I quickly blew holes in that thought by thinking duh, every city has news channels from their own city. I finally decided to pull a Franklin and do some serious online research. I researched the top cities in America based on popularity and population, and this is what I found: Chicago is third in the nation based on population, but 15th based on one popularity poll. In another popularity poll, Chicago came in 12th*, beating NYC and Washington DC. I proceeded to research the top states in America based on population and popularity, and this is what I found: Illinois places 5th for population, but I found one website that put Illinois in 2nd on a list of the "Top 5 least popular states". With this information, I have formulated a theory: Illinois is not popular, but Chicago is. Las Vegas came to mind. Lots of people talk about Las Vegas; it's a pretty popular city. However, no one really brings up Nevada. Some people I know even thought Las Vegas was in California. That's what I think about Illinois and Chicago. My theory is that people in other states talk about Chicago, but not many people bring up Illinois. I'm not completely sure where I came up with this idea or why I decided to pursue the answer, but I did, so here you are reading this blog. I don't know if anyone else has ever seen the show Monk, but if you haven't, buy all the seasons, sit down with plenty of snacks, and watch every single one of them. It's such a good show! It ended a while ago, though, so they don't make new episodes anymore. If you're not at the store buying this show yet then I guess I'll tell you what it's about.
The picture kind of explains the main character, Adrian Monk. He has OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). He has many fears and he's a germiphobe. He has to have everything organized, leveled, centered, ironed, and sorted absolutely perfect. The thing is, he's a detective. He sees a lot of messy crime scenes, and gets involved with messy people. It's hilarious to watch every case and what new situations he may have to encounter including germs, dirt, milk, or elevators (just a few of his many fears). There are many funny parts, some sad parts, and 100% of the parts are good! One of the best things about it, though, is the fact that everyone can relate at least a little bit with at least one of the characters! I sometimes find channels that play re-runs, and even though I've already seen most of them, they never get old! Every character is perfect for their role and every role is perfect for the show. My point is: WHY ARE YOU STILL READING THIS GO TO THE STORE RIGHT NOW AND BUY EVERY EPISODE OF THIS SHOW. ((Side note: I don't know if anyone remembers, but last year Mr. Miller showed a movie and the actor of the main character of "Monk" was in it. Just a completely random and un-related side note.)) I am not reading Dracula in class, I'm reading Frankenstein, but I learned from Google that today is Bram Stoker's 165th birthday! I'd just like to wish Bram Stoker a happy 165th, and that's all I have to say, goodbye.
I'm just going to add to this as I think of things, because I have a lot of random different things to say so I'll just put them all in one post. 1. The word "webisode" bothers me sooooo much you don't even understand the magnitude of my complete annoyance when I hear that word. 2. I'm watching the "NBC decision 2012", and watching the people walk around behind the people they are interviewing is actually very interesting. Using my amazing skills of observation I have noticed several very interesting hats. 3. Dusty is indeed a very strange dog. She was lying on the couch, and then she jumped off the couch and started smushing her face on the carpet... 4. Somebody on the news was talking and they said something, and it was bleeped out, but I'm 96% sure it was not a swear word... I guess they made a mistake there! Oh, that reminds me: this was a while ago, but one time when I was running on a treadmill at the community center, and I was trying to watch the olympics, but of course there was no volume because there were several TVs all on different channels. There were subtitles, but they didn't make any sense! They weren't even words, they were just little jumbles of letters that didn't spell anything, it was really weird...
5. I wonder how late I will be staying up... I want to stay up until I know who our next president will be, but it's taking forever! 7. Tenacity or tenaciousness? There was a guy talking on the news and he started to say tenacity and then stopped and said tenaciousness. Which one should he use, or does it matter? 8. AAAAAND OBAMA WINS 274 - 203! That was so weird I was watching the TV then I looked at Dusty, and then I looked back up and saw "OBAMA ELECTED" and I was like alright, that's cool, just wait until the one second that I'm not looking to elect our next president! Well, those were all of the things I thought of while watching the election coverage! I like watching the election coverage, because first of all it's obviously important and second off all, it's kind of cool and exciting knowing that a huge majority of the other people in the country are doing the same thing, watching the election coverage and wondering who our next president is going to be! Well, Dusty says good night everybody and she just got mad at me because now she's trying to sleep but my typing is too loud (sorry Dusty). Right now I am sitting in my basement, pretending to do my math homework (sorry Mrs. P) and watching NBC election coverage. There are a number of awesome things I have noticed: 1. It's kind of hard to tell what this is so I'll tell you. This picture is from last election (you can kind of see the thing on the right that says "McCain") but it's similar to something I saw this year. The little boxes are some sort of platform lift things, and attached to the bottom and making the building look like a bar graph are big long sheets representing the amount of votes each candidate is getting. 2. CNN is displaying the electoral votes on top of the empire state building. 3. The ice rink in front of Rockefeller Plaza has a map on it and they are showing which candidates are winning which states by making some red and some blue.
I thought all of this stuff was pretty awesome. These look like really cool and fun ways to show who is winning and how the election is going so far! This is my LEAST favorite season. It has all the cons of winter, but none of the pros. It's just... not fun. Here's my list:
So there's my list. You can see that the cons list is longer, and some of the pros aren't even really pros. I don't know why, but I just don't like it. It's like I said in the beginning; it's all the cons of winter, but non of the pros, like snow. A lot of people like fall, and yes, there are certain things I do like about it, but... not really.
