The other day, a very strange and random thought popped into my head: Are we popular? I hear a lot of talk about certain states, like New York, or California. Here's where my question comes in. Do people in other states talk about Illinois? At first, I thought, well, no. Illinois doesn't really have anything special. It's just kind of there. We all know about Illinois, but that's because we live here. Then another thought occurred to me. We have Chicago. That'a a pretty popular city. Other states must talk about Illinois. But then I thought: What if Chicago isn't really that popular of a city? What if it's just popular in Illinois? Then I thought, no, it can't be only popular in Illinois. Lots of broadcasting and news channels and stuff are in Chicago. Then I quickly blew holes in that thought by thinking duh, every city has news channels from their own city. I finally decided to pull a Franklin and do some serious online research. I researched the top cities in America based on popularity and population, and this is what I found: Chicago is third in the nation based on population, but 15th based on one popularity poll. In another popularity poll, Chicago came in 12th*, beating NYC and Washington DC. I proceeded to research the top states in America based on population and popularity, and this is what I found: Illinois places 5th for population, but I found one website that put Illinois in 2nd on a list of the "Top 5 least popular states". With this information, I have formulated a theory: Illinois is not popular, but Chicago is. Las Vegas came to mind. Lots of people talk about Las Vegas; it's a pretty popular city. However, no one really brings up Nevada. Some people I know even thought Las Vegas was in California. That's what I think about Illinois and Chicago. My theory is that people in other states talk about Chicago, but not many people bring up Illinois. I'm not completely sure where I came up with this idea or why I decided to pursue the answer, but I did, so here you are reading this blog.

I think the Internet has failed us because if Chicago came in 12th beating NYC, then that means NYC had a very low ranking when I read somewhere once New York City is the most popular.
