The first thing we did when we went there was... Well, lets see... Um... Okay, I'll admit, I'm terrible at remembering things and there is no way that I'm going to list the things we did in chronological order. I can't make any promises, but from what I remember, the first thing we did there was look around. We just stood there and looked. There was, of course, a lot of looking to be done. We hadn't been there in two years, and all of a sudden: BAM. There we were, at the entrance of the festival grounds, and I remembered everything. Everything we did in past years flew into my head, and I remembered where everything was and how in past years we sat by the lake, got lemonade, bought some books, ate sugar-covered cashews and scones and rode the sky ride. It was creepy; like a bajillion flashbacks all muddled into one big Milwaukee Irish Fest memory puddle in my brain.
Anyway, once we got over the initial shock of how familiar this was, we started walking. This is why I love Irish Fest: we started walking with nothing but a bag of sunscreen/misquito spray and all of our jackets, and I bought pajama pants at the first tent we saw. It is sooo easy to buy stuff there...
We found a cool band that we listened to (of all of the things I did remember about past years, I never remember there being a good band playing, ever... probably because there never was one...), and I got some good "Old Fashion Lemonade". They poured some lemonade, and then put a heaping spoonful of sugar in, and then they plopped half of a lemon in to top it off. It was very yummy and sweet! :D
My mom and I rode the sky ride. I don't know if any of you have ever been to a fest there, but there is this big wire running over the whole grounds, and there are little seats hanging from it. It doesn't really ever stop, so to get on it you kind of have to let it knock you over into the seat... Once you get up there, though, it looks so cool to see all of the little people below you. It's like when they show an arial view of the Taste of Chicago or something on TV and you say "wow that's so crowded; I'm glad I'm not there", except with the sky ride you are there...
We bought a small thing of sugar cashews, and we were going to sit in a tent, but my mom and I ate all of them before we even got there. My answer to this was not "wow, we ate a lot!" What I said was "I told you we should've gotten a large."
Hey, that's what vacation is for!
