Yesterday I volunteered at Su Casa, which is almost like a shelter for Hispanic women. Su Casa lets these women live with them for a year, they give them food, send their kids to school and help them look for jobs. Anyway my church was trying to get some people to go over there to paint, wash windows, plant flowers and thongs like that. We went with my family friends and we all wanted to kind of stay together so all of the girls decided that painting the dining room chairs while the boys painted the dining room walls. Now there are seven of us girls, but more like five because two of my friends aren't much help. There were fifteen or so chairs so we thought it would take us about two hours, we were very close on our guess, it was about an hour and fifty minutes in when the Su Casa lady was like "Oh I found these in the back, I completely forgot". She brought in eight chairs. Then another four. I kind of wanted to hurt her. We were all ready for a break, considering it was lunch time and we probably lost many brain cells smelling that paint. We ate but then got right back to work, we were doing pretty well until everyone else finished their jobs. This group of ladies probably in there thirties wanted to help us, this was perfectly fine with us but the problem was they were super slow. In the time me, Laina, my mom and my friend Annie would get three chairs done the five of them would get one done. Even though I probably lost many brain cells from smelling paint for three and a half hours it was nice to know that so many people would love the grayish blue chairs that we painted. They looked really nice, they had been all mismatched when we got there and the all matched perfectly when we left. It was a satisfying feeling and definatly a productive way to spend my day.
